Dermatology for Darker Skin Tones (release in progress)

by Ncoza Dlova
Dermatology is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating conditions of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. As our body's largest organ, the skin serves as a crucial barrier against pathogens, regulates temperature, and often reflects internal health conditions - making dermatological knowledge essential for comprehensive medical care.

This course provides specialized focus on dermatological conditions as they present in darker skin tones, exploring the unique diagnostic considerations and therapeutic approaches for melanin-rich skin. Students will build upon their foundational knowledge of skin anatomy and pathophysiology to develop clinical competency in recognizing and treating a wide range of dermatological conditions, including inflammatory diseases, pigmentation disorders, and various infections.

This knowledge is essential for any medical professional working in our diverse global society, where competency in treating all skin types is necessary for providing high-quality, culturally-competent care.
