00:01
In this lecture,
we'll continue looking
at the lower limb
and focus on the foot.
00:07
So let's introduce
ourselves to the foot
and various surface features.
00:11
So here we can see
the right foot,
and we can see its
superior surface
is known as the
dorsum of the foot.
00:18
And the inferior surface is
known as the sole of the foot.
00:22
So just remember
that these two terms,
the superior surface is known
as the dorsum of the foot,
and the inferior surface
is known as the sole.
00:31
So if we look at the dorsum of
the foot, its superior surface,
we can see we have a series
of these extrinsic muscles.
00:38
What we mean by this
is these are muscles that
actually work on the foot
and the ankle joint,
but actually originate
from the leg,
and they have long tendons
that pass into the foot.
00:49
We can then see we have
intrinsic muscles of the foot.
00:52
Now these don't reside
in the leg in any way,
they stay in the foot,
and they work on the
tarsals, metatarsal,
and the toes.
01:00
The sole of the foot, here we
have this inferior surface,
we then also have a series
of extrinsic muscles.
01:07
And these again
originate in the leg
and their long tendons pass
into the sole of the foot.
01:12
And then we have a series of
intrinsic muscles of the sole.
01:16
And here we have four layers.
01:18
There's lots of muscles here,
which are really important
in helping the foot to have
a stable grip on the surface,
we're walking, running, etc.
01:26
So a series of extrinsic muscles
that originate elsewhere
pass into the foot
and a series of
intrinsic muscles
that are located
within the foot itself.
