00:01
Welcome to this introduction module and this
module, we're going to give you an overview
of the Project Management Institute or PMI,
the Project Management Professional or PMP
credential, and also the PMBOK guide to
start with the
Project Management Institute.
00:16
It is considered to be the world's leading
project management association.
00:21
It has over seven hundred and fifty thousand
members and credential holders
throughout the globe and over 200 countries.
00:29
Its key mission is making project management
indispensable for business
results. One of the key publications put out
by PMI
is the PMBOK guide, or to give it its full
name, a guide to the
project management body of knowledge.
00:45
The PMBOK guide is considered a Standard
reference from PMI for
managing any sort of project at all.
00:53
It contains a collection of five processes
the initiating
process planning process, executing process
monitoring and controlling
process and closing process.
01:06
It also has 10 knowledge areas.
01:08
These are the integration scope, time, cost
quality,
human resources, risk communications,
procurement and stakeholder
management knowledge areas.
01:21
The PMBOK guide is generally accepted as
best practice of what is considered
good in the profession of project
management.
01:29
One of the things that is not it is not a
methodology.
01:33
It is a framework document.
01:35
It has provided you with all the information
you need to build your own tailored
methodology from it.
01:41
And as such, it's not prescriptive in any
way.
01:45
You are regularly encouraged to take from it
only those parts which
provide benefit to you and your project.
01:54
The PM Bot guide also does not capture the
entire body of knowledge.
01:58
What it does is captures what most people
would do most of the time and
is considered good practice and the
profession of project management.
02:07
Those parts of the body of knowledge that it
hasn't included within it, it recognizes
still as valid.
02:14
And may be useful to you as well.
02:16
Additionally, the PMBOK guide is also
aligned with the internationally
recognized standard ISO twenty one thousand
five hundred.
02:27
The project management professional, or PMP
credential, is considered to be the
world's leading project management
credential.
02:35
It is the minimum prerequisite for working
in many industries and many countries around
the world. What it does as an absolute
minimum is indicate
a solid foundation of readily applicable
project management knowledge and
also because of the eligibility criteria.
02:51
It indicates a minimum amount of time spent
working as a project manager.
02:58
The PMP credential itself, once you've
obtained it, is valid for three
years. The exam is not based on the PMBOK
guide,
as most people think it is, in fact, based
on the results of a regularly
updated roll delineation study, which
captured the tasks a competent project
manager is expected to be able to perform.
03:21
The PMBOK guide, though, is a great way to
study towards the PMP
credential. Unlike university degrees, the
PMP
certification will lapse after three years,
as I've already mentioned.
03:34
If you wish to keep it during that three
year period, you must earn at least 60
professional development units or PDUs.
03:42
If you do earn those 60 PDUs during that
three year time, you get to retain their
credential. You also can't hide the fact
whether you've got it or not, as your name
will be searchable on a publicly available
database on the PMI
website. Getting professional development
units just takes
regular commitment to your own professional
development.
04:06
The PMP exam itself contains 200 MultiChoice
questions.
04:12
You are given four hours to complete the
exam, so that's 72 seconds per
question. Now some questions you'll do in
less than 72
seconds, and some questions will take you
more than 72 questions 73 seconds.
04:28
We don't know what the past Mark is, and
you'll only be told whether you pass or fail.
04:33
The scoring itself is using the modified
Angoff scoring technique.
04:38
Keep in mind that the PMP exam, it's not an
easy exam, and
as I've said already, it's not based on the
PMBOK guide, but on the results of a
regularly updated roll delineation study.
04:49
And all of this information can be found in
a PMP examination specification
outline available from the Project
Management Institute website.
04:59
The contents and compilation of the PMP exam
complies with ISO seventeen
thousand twenty four.
05:05
Much like many other professional
certifications.
05:10
And it is a difficult exam, and if you don't
study, you won't pass.
05:17
For those people who perhaps don't have
enough eligibility to set the
PMP, there is the Certified Associate and
Project Management Credential or the
CAPM or CAPM credential.
05:29
It's considered to be an entry level
credential for those who don't yet
meet the eligibility requirements for the
PMP.
05:37
It's valid for five years only and can't be
renewed.
05:41
The assumption is, during this five year
period, you would get the eligibility
required to set the PMP.
05:49
The CAPM or CAPM exam is based on the
contents of the PMBOK guide.
05:57
The CAPM exam has one hundred and fifty
MultiChoice questions.
06:02
You have three hours in total, 72 seconds
per question.
06:07
You will be told whether you pass or fail,
you won't be given a mark, we don't know what
the mark exactly is.
06:13
It is not really a difficult exam.
06:16
It is based on the PMBOK guide.
06:18
And once again, in order to pass it, you
must study.
06:24
When it comes to the exam results, you will
only be told whether you pass or fail the
exam not given any sort of mark for the PMP
exam.
06:34
You will be told in each of the five domain
areas it's initiating Planning,
executing, monitoring and controlling and
closing.
06:42
You'll be told whether you're proficient,
moderately proficient or below proficient in
each of those areas for the CAPM or CAPM
credential.
06:51
You'll actually receive your mark in each of
the ten knowledge areas out of the PMBOK
guide, and once again, you'll be told whether
you're either proficient, moderately
proficient or below proficient and those
areas as well.
07:04
So thank you very much for listening to this
introductory module.
07:07
I hope that we've given you a brief overview
of the Project Management Institute, the
PMP and the CAPM credentials, and also the
PMBOK
guide.
