Sepsis and Septic Shock

Organ dysfunction resulting from a dysregulated systemic host response to infection separates sepsis from uncomplicated infection. Pathophysiology

General approach

  1. Suspect sepsis in any individual presenting with any of the following:
    • Infection without apparent organ dysfunction 
    • New-onset and unexplained organ dysfunction without apparent infection
