Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are the 4 central values needed to achieve a just healthcare system. Nurses regularly witness the effects of inequities and disparities on their clients. Learning how and why such issues develop helps us to care for all our clients comprehensively and with cultural intelligence, but identifying and addressing these issues can be challenging to navigate due to their complexity and nuance.
This course introduces essential concepts for addressing inequities in healthcare, asking course-takers to self-reflect and relate their experiences to the course content. You will cover topics of bias, social determinants of health, cultural awareness, shared language, and stigma in healthcare. The course also will discuss recognizing microaggressions and ways you can communicate mindfully and become an ally in the healthcare environment.
An adaptive learning algorithm, downloadable Cheat Sheets, and a NCLEX-style Qbank are part of the learning platform, boosting retention and understanding. By the end of this course, you will have heightened awareness of the profound impact of healthcare inequities and disparities, and be equipped with the tools to combat them and to advance equity and equality for everyone as a nurse.
