with Jacquelyn McMillian-Bohler, PhD, CNM
Helping new life come into the world and providing skilled and compassionate care for the childbearing family is very fulfilling and can have a lasting positive impact on families. However, maternity nursing also comes with unpredictable complications and emergencies requiring swift clinical decision-making, which can be daunting.
This course covers the key topics of maternity nursing: women’s health including understanding the menstrual cycle, the assessment and attending of a patient’s pregnancy, what to check for in the initial visit), and the main nursing tasks in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, such as how to evaluate a mother in active labor and what to observe in fetal monitoring. Additionally, Certified Nurse-Midwife Dr. McMillian-Bohler will explain newborn assessment, nutrition, and complications, as well as how to provide support around perinatal loss.
An adaptive learning algorithm, downloadable Cheat Sheets, and a NCLEX-style Qbank are part of the learning platform, boosting retention and understanding. By the end of this course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the nursing care of childbearing families, and feel ready for your exams as well as practical nursing care.
