Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are crucial aspects of nursing education, yet nurse faculty encounter various challenges when addressing these topics in their teaching. Lecturio is here to support you with high-quality diversity content, taught by experts in the field Dr. Richard-Eaglin and Dr. McMillian-Bohler, and a sample lesson plan to aid you in classroom implementation.
DEIB is a complex topic for many educators. Teaching concepts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion requires a deep understanding and sensitivity to cultural nuances. As humans, we can be worried about navigating these complex topics without offending or excluding students.
Our expert-led video course can support you in
- Addressing Bias and Stereotypes: Our video course provides insights and strategies to address unconscious biases effectively.
- Managing Difficult Conversations: Discussing sensitive topics related to diversity and inclusion can lead to uncomfortable conversations in the classroom. Our course can help equip you with the skills to facilitate these discussions respectfully and constructively.
- Keeping Curriculum Relevant: With the evolving healthcare landscape and societal changes, keeping the curriculum up to date with the latest DEIB principles is a constant challenge for nurse faculty.
- Promoting Cultural Competency: Developing cultural intelligence and humility among faculty and students is essential in nursing education. Our course helps enhance cultural competency by providing real-world examples and practical strategies for inclusive care.

Sample Lesson Plan:
Want to get started integrating Lecturio’s DEIB course into your curriculum right away? Below is a short lesson plan.
BEFORE CLASS
- In your Lecturio account, assign the video course “Introduction to DEIB” taught by Dr. Angela Richard-Eaglin to your students. You may also wish to assign additional lessons from Dr. Richard-Eaglin’s entire course, “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.”
- In your Lecturio account, search for the lesson “: Healthcare Bias in Acute Coronary Syndrome (Nursing)” by Jacquelyn McMillian-Bohler, PhD, CNM. You will not assign this video lesson, but will present the case study to your students in class.
- Select “Materials” underneath the video to download the slides.
- Watch the lesson to observe how the instructor takes learners through the case study on Healthcare Bias in Acute Coronary Syndrome.
DURING CLASS
- (20 min) Using the slides downloaded from “DEIB Case Study: Healthcare Bias in Acute Coronary Syndrome (Nursing),” walk the class through the case study provided.
- (15 min) Divide the class into groups of 3-4. Ask the following questions for discussion within the groups (write on the board, show on screen, or hand out copies of the questions.)
- What are the potential differences in cardiac symptoms amongst the sexes?
- What identifying factors may lead to a minimization of symptoms in healthcare settings?
- How can HCPs address and overcome barriers to care faced by marginalized populations?
- (5–10 min) Ask each group to share their answers.
If you would like to have more case study discussions in class, choose additional lessons from the course “DEIB Case Study” or “NGN DEIB Case Studies.” Follow the same steps to download the slides for the case studies. Turn the learning objectives from each video into your questions for discussion.
AFTER CLASS
From your Lecturio account, assign additional videos from “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.“
