SAW Format

Self-Assessment Week’s structure comprised four segments, each comprising 40 questions. This setup facilitated a thorough assessment of participants’ competencies. With a suggested duration of 60 minutes per segment, students could approach the evaluation at a pace that suited them best, ensuring flexibility in their self-assessment journey.

Diverse Participation and Motivations

Self-Assessment Week 2024 drew in a varied array of medical students, showcasing its global appeal. Out of the participants, a remarkable 67.5% represented international backgrounds, while 21.8% originated from the United States. Interestingly, a significant portion of students chose to take the self-assessment closer to the end of the week, especially on March 3, indicating a preference for completing assessments under deadline pressure. This pattern suggests an inclination toward using Self-Assessment Week as a final review or assessment prior to scheduled exam dates. Most were motivated by a desire to assess their level of preparation, review during their specific study period, and familiarize themselves with an exam environment similar to the USMLE®, underscoring the usefulness of self-assessment in meeting their immediate academic needs.

 Benefiting from Post-Assessment Feedback

Following the conclusion of Self-Assessment Week 2024, participants eagerly awaited their results, which were delivered promptly via email within three days of the completion deadline. The feedback provided comprehensive insights, including predicted 3-digit scores, percentile rankings, and a breakdown of correctly and incorrectly answered questions. This post-assessment analysis proved invaluable, enabling students to reflect on their performance, identify areas for improvement, and refine their study strategies accordingly.

Celebrating Collective Achievement

Self-Assessment Week 2024 was not merely a test of individual readiness but also a testament to the collective strength and resilience of the medical student community. The remarkable dedication and commitment of participants contributed to a surge in registrations, with a total of 12,355 students embracing the challenge. Their unwavering pursuit of excellence and commitment to academic mastery serve as an inspiration to all.
